Improvisation, Repertoire, Creative Processes: explore the practices used to build Premier Dance Theatre’s first work, Stasiland.

In this workshop experience you’ll have the opportunity to explore Stasiland’s unique repertoire and get a taste of the creative processes that we used to develop Premier Dance Theatre’s first professional work.

Together we’ll begin with improvisation, building ourselves up from the floor. The focus will be on the movement qualities we utilise in Stasiland, allowing us to warm up while tapping into the textures that feature in the work. We’ll then smoothly shift into learning repertoire, while exploring the set and games we used to give the work it’s distinctive atmosphere, allowing artists to build on their knowledge of the movement language unique to Stasiland. From this point we’ll engage in the creative process that developed the repertoire and vignettes that you’ll see in the work, telling the stories of Stasiland’s characters.

Perfect for emerging artists, graduates & degree level dance or performance students in full time professional training.

unlocking stories through movement

The Unlocking Stories Through Movement Workshops allow pupils and students from Key Stage 1 through to Further Education Level to explore stories appropriate to their age group through movement. Over the course of 1-2 hours depending on age group, the lead artist, Olivia, will guide pupils and students through a series of activities and tasks allowing them to explore a story (chosen by the school & Olivia in pre-workshop conversations) or Premier Dance Theatre’s latest works.
